so yeah the battle of the hoisins was decided well before this 'taste-test' as suggested by my 5 pound food service can of Lee Kum Kee. the Kikkoman jar lurks in the back of the fridge relegated to pinch hitter status. Sun Luck and House of Tsang were defeated long ago... difficult to describe the taste of hoisin. it's such a unique condiment. i'm put off by Kikkoman's complexity, it's viscosity, it's hint of what i'd describe as a rice wine-y. in fact the ingredients list miso and plum puree. (yes, that's what i meant). Lee Kum Kee has neither, using sweet potato and chili peppers. nice
