this month's random product endorsement is a excellent instant noodle bowl from Nongshim. if you're fortunate enough to have a World Market near by you can get this tasty 'RAMYUN' there. if not you can get it online at their website. and yes, as you guessed it's as Korean as kimchi...(click 'read more' below if you want)
what you get is the typical noodle disc and flavor pack plus a pack of dehydrated kimchi. ingredients 'cabbage, red chili pepper, ginger, salt, shrimp'. i say that's pretty much the real deal. further down the ingredient list includes radish, seaweed extract and 'sand lance concentrate' which turns out to be duh, fish sauce. anchovy, beef, beef fat extracts and goddam you get the umami high five. to top that the noodles are very different from the ramen i'm used to. these are bright white with a eggy yellow touch. turns out wheat flour and potato starch. nice. here i've adorned with spicy roast chicken thighs, scallions, red onion, ginger/habanero chunks and later hoisin of course.
