i guess i still don't get the grateful dead thing. but thankfully i'm no longer sproutaphobic.
eugene oregon killed my tastes for the grateful dead and bean sprouts. i spent my university years there. bean sprouts were as ubiquitous as tie dyed shirts.... ....birkenstocks and broken down VW vans. at the time i was quite proud to be employed flipping burgers at the campus Dairy Queen, a sprout free oasis of salt, fat, and sugar. after eugene i took about a 20 year sprout hiatus. these days our household is doing everything possible to grow our own produce. sprouts are a total no-brainer. we like the Victorio sprouter. sure you can just buy sprouts at the supermarket (unless you live in a red state). but the quality/texture/taste difference is huge. and they make for fun presentation as homegrown sprouts are perky, full of life. they stand up! take a three finger pinch of them and arrange them on your salad plate, garnish your huevos rancheros, with a dollup of creme fraiche on your baked potato, on the tuna melt.
i guess i still don't get the grateful dead thing. but thankfully i'm no longer sproutaphobic.
